When GM decided to come back into the mid-sized truck segment weekend warriors across the nation rejoiced at the thought of being able to get their hands on a model from GM that offered what they needed. These hard working folks know they don’t need all the work and power that is found in the heavy duty work trucks of construction crews around the country. Instead what is needed is a great truck that can be called upon to handle some duties on the weekend but is otherwise a great vehicle to drive on a daily basis.

The GMC Canyon 2.5L Automatic 4×4 Extended Cab which is the base truck for the Canyon and comes powered by the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gives you the best fuel efficiency of any mid-sized truck at 19 city/25 hwy mpg. This gives you the ability to tow up to 3,500 pounds which is a significant accomplishment for a truck with only four-cylinders working under the hood. With this power and capacity you can certainly bring home a great work project and get a phenomenal tree house built for your kids or take a few toys out to the lake for a weekend of fun.

As a smaller and shorter truck, the GMC Canyon is able to turn sharper and offer a much more maneuverable drive that the full sized Sierra. Driving in the Canyon may even make you feel as if you are driving in a car because this truck sits so low, but look around you and see that you can enjoy filling the bed with some gear or equipment in order to make the most of your days off of work with your family and friends whether that is taking the truck out for a tailgate at the game on Sunday or it involves some chores that need to be marked off your “honey do” list.

As the base model you don’t expect the interior to be all that intriguing, but this truck will surprise you a bit. The materials, although not of the luxury quality, are all enjoyable and the look and feel of the interior is one that makes it easy to drive this nice truck. The center console shows a small but useful infotainment screen, and if desired this truck can come equipped with the 4G LTE Wi-Fi through the OnStar system to turn this mid-sized workhorse into a mobile office that can be great when you need connection and the ability to check your email from a remote location.

The Canyon at the base model is certainly a great place to start. If you want more power and features there are several items that can be added and trim levels to climb, but with the four-cylinder engine and the ability to haul some stuff even the base model of this truck makes sense for anyone looking for the ability to haul their weekend wares either home or out to a destination that will result in some fun in the sun.
